Athens Photo World, which made possible by a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), will present the work of Italian photographer Paolo Pellegrin for the first time in Greece. The exhibition, As I Was Dying, is based on the photographer’s book of the same name, and will on display throughout August in the 4th Floor Atrium of the National Library of Greece at the SNFCC.
At the same time, the best press photos of 2020—as selected through the international World Press Photo competition—will also be presented in an exhibition at the SNFCC. The exhibition will feature works by 45 photographers from 28 countries, offering a kaleidoscope of viewpoints on major events and issues from the past year.
From May 21 through the end of summer, Athenians and visitors will once again have the opportunity to enjoy APW’s outdoor exhibitions and digital projections in public spaces around Athens. The photographs cover a multitude of themes, from everyday life to sports.
To encourage young photojournalists and help realize the vision of the late, legendary photojournalist Yannis Behrakis, APW has once again organized photo contests featuring cash prizes: the Yannis Behrakis International Photojournalism Award and the Athens Photo World Award. These prizes for photojournalists in Greece and abroad were established in 2019 through a grant from SNF.
The winners of this year’s contests will receive their awards in a special event that will take place on May 26 at the SNFCC Lighthouse.
The works of last year’s contest winners, Fabio Bucciarelli and Dimitris Michalakis, will be presented at Melina Cultural Center from May 21 to 30.
