Jeb Bush, Donna Brazile, and Julian Castro Join Busy Fall Schedule at Penn’s SNF Paideia Program
09 October 2020

“Civil Discourse in Uncivil Times” is the topic of this year’s Silfen Forum at the University of Pennsylvania, co-hosted by the University’s Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Paideia Program, but it could well be the heading for the totality of the program’s fall offerings.

At the October 13 Forum, former governor of Florida Jeb Bush, political strategist Donna Brazile, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, Pulitzer-prize winning journalist Ashley Parker, and author and journalist Peggy Noonan will join a conversation led by Penn President Amy Gutmann and SNF Paideia Faculty Director Michael X. Delli Carpini.

A post-Forum discussion for the Penn community joins a slate of fall events for Penn students, from an event on how to approach ideological differences with empathy, to “Can We Talk?” regional dialogues, to guidance on getting an internship in Washington, to a social justice-oriented tour of sculptures on Penn’s campus. Fall Paideia classes in the Penn course book include Grit Lab and Peace Communication.

Other events open to the public focus on justice as it relates to artificial intelligence and to the concept of “code” more broadly.
