New Radiotherapy Equipment Granted by SNF to the Theageneio Anticancer Hospital of Thessaloniki

On Wednesday, November 21st, 2018, the Theageneio Anticancer Hospital of Thessaloniki inaugurated its new linear accelerator (linac), which is the second piece of radiotherapy equipment that has been installed at the Hospital’s Radiotherapy Department, with an exclusive grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

The two machines, which are currently in clinical operation, will upgrade and expand radiotherapy services provided at the Hospital to patients across Northern Greece.

The grant is part of SNF’s large scale initiative to support radiotherapy in Greece, which includes the procurement and installation of ten state-of-the-art and high precision linear accelerators in seven public hospitals in Greece. The grant is also supporting the free maintenance of each linear accelerator for two years. Furthermore, under the same grant, scientific personnel of each hospital participates in training programs, in Greece and abroad, in order to ensure optimal operation of the radiotherapy equipment after its installation.
