30 November 2019

This New Year’s Day marks the start not only of a new year, but of a new decade too, and this calls for a celebration you will remember for decades to come.

Join the SNF RUN: 2020 FIRST RUN at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) Christmas World!
For the fourth New Year’s Eve in a row, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) invites you to dress to the nines—or whatever size you take in running shoes—and take part in the SNF RUN: 2020 FIRST RUN, setting the pace for the coming year!
The invitation is open to all, and the route covers a distance of just 4 kilometers around the festively bedecked SNFCC. Afterwards a big party will be awaiting runners at the SNFCC Agora.
Additionally, by participating in this year’s SNF RUN, runners are supporting the work of small non-profit organizations doing great work to look out for vulnerable children. This year’s partner nonprofits are Spring Children, Angels of Joy, and the "Good Shepherd” Minors Protection Association of Piraeus. The amount donated through the symbolic participation fee will be tripled through an additional contribution from SNF.
The race will start at four minutes after midnight (00.04), on Wednesday, January 1, 2020, just after we ring in the New Year! Live commentary on the SNF RUN: 2020 FIRST RUN will be provided by iMEdD Managing Director, SNF DIALOGUES Executive Director and Journalist, Anna-Kynthia Bousdoukou.
SNFCC’s Christmas World is already a popular holiday destination for Athenians and visitors alike, and this New Year’s Eve it is hosting a grand variety of events, through a rich program that covers all tastes. The evening includes ice-skating at the Canal, Light Installations at the Stavros Niarchos Park, an epic DJ set at the Agora by the legendary mod master Eddie Piller, and of course, the spectacular fireworks show!
The SNF RUN: 2020 FIRST RUN is made possible by an exclusive grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), which covers all production costs of the race. The organization of the race is undertaken by the nonprofit Regeneration & Progress and University of Athens Medical School 1st Orthopedics Clinic’s Department of Sports Excellence. The event is implemented with the collaboration of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC).
Suggested minimum donation: €5
Maximum number of participants: 2020

The Spring Children
The Spring Children, a living center that provides daily care and occupational training to people with disabilities, hosts 67 adults with developmental disabilities, autism, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy. Among the center’s essential goals are providing vocational training to clients, improving quality of life, overcoming social exclusion, and ensuring equal opportunity in daily life. Well-trained staff and volunteers contribute to this effort by providing high-quality services.
Through the runners’ donations and the additional contribution from the SNF, the center aims to cover the procurement of necessary equipment for its physical therapy and training rooms, to be able to offer clients the best possible opportunities for treatment and exercise.
The center has been operating since 1990 in Alexandria in the Prefecture of Imathia.
Angels of Joy
The Angels of Joy use art to provide psychosocial support to children who are hospitalized or live in group homes, to the elderly, and to people with disabilities. Specially trained artist-educators and music therapists implement artistic programs and animated music-theater performances on a weekly basis in all Attica children's hospitals, elder care homes, childcare institutions, and special education organizations.
Through the runners’ donations and the additional contribution from the SNF, artistic and therapeutic programs in the neonatal intensive care and oncology departments of the Athens children's hospitals where the organization operates will be enhanced.
The Angels of Joy is a nonprofit organization established in 2014.
“The Good Shepherd” Minors Protection Association of Piraeus
“The Good Shepherd” Minors Protection Association of Piraeus welcomes children ages four and up who are living in adverse conditions or an inappropriate family environment, upon the request of the Prosecutor for Minors, the request of their parents, or a court order. The organization currently hosts 27 children, providing food, shelter, clothing, and medical care. It also organizes activities aimed at promoting healthy psycho-spiritual development and smooth integration into society for the children in their care.
The runners’ contribution and the additional contribution from the SNF will go toward the procurement of necessary medical equipment for the Association’s clinic. Specifically, top priorities include the procurement of an electronic blood pressure monitor, an electronic portable cardiograph, and a dual-optic transceiver.
“The Good Shepherd” Minors Protection Association of Piraeus, established in 1955, is based in Kaminia at Piraeus and aims to provide protection to minors in need.
