SNF Nostos runners come together to support access to medical care in Greece

Jun 24, 2026

This year, as in past years, the SNF Nostos Run had a triple purpose: bringing people together for a lovely sunset run through Athens, helping them stay active and healthy, and inviting them to pitch in for a good cause. This year, that good cause was supporting two Greek nonprofits working to make sure people in Greece, including kids, get the quality medical care they need.

Over 6,0000 runners answered the call, donating a total of €49,584. This was triple-matched by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), which also covered all the organizational costs of the run, for a total donation of €198,336. This amount will be split equally between Lampsi, which strives to ensure that children in Northern Greece with serious diseases receive excellent medical care, and Pnoi Agapis, a volunteer association offering social and emotional support to people with cancer and their families.

Health & Sports is a key pillar of SNF’s grantmaking work, notably through our ongoing billion-dollar-plus Global Health Initiative (GHI), but the challenges we face are big enough that no one can solve them alone. This is why we believe in public-private partnership and GHI projects in Greece are handed over to the Greek state once they become operational, why end-users are consulted for SNF-supported projects in areas from youth mental health to hospital design, and why we come together and run for health—both that of the runners and those aided by the recipient nonprofits.
