Event in celebration of the completion of pedestrinization projects in the heart of Athens
07 July 2017

On Thursday, July 6th, in the context of its initiatives towards the reinvigoration of the Athens Commercial Triangle, the Municipality of Athens delivered to pedestrians the streets of Chrisospiliotissis, Nikiou, Vlachava and Poliklitou, with an open celebration complemented by a series of cultural activities and happenings.

The redesign and the pedestrinization project includes an area of a total of 110 hectares, aspiring to create a wider pedestrian street network, and is part of the program for the Revitalization of the Athens Commercial Triangle. The program is implemented through the exclusive support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), as part of the €10 million grant that has been allocated to the Municipality of Athens, in the context of the SNF’s Initiative Against the Greek Crisis, aiming to address the immediate needs of citizens of the urban center.

The aim of the program is to enhance the functional and aesthetic aspects of the Athens Commercial Triangle area, through a series of interventions, including, among others, the upgrade of the urban equipment and the execution of damage repairs, as well as to combat delinquencies pertaining to parking regulations, waste, graffiti and posters management.
