A Book on the Work of Civil engineer Andreas C. Dracopoulos, now Available in Digital Format

Apr 11, 2019
Civil engineer Andreas C. Dracopoulos (1891-1973) was in charge of the planning and design of a vast number of private and public construction projects in Athens. His rich work is captured in thousands of documents, photographs, and construction plans preserved by collector Giannis Lambrou and then delivered to MONUMENTA for study, documentation, and finally publication.

The publication includes pictures and documents from the period that Andreas Dracopoulos studied and served as a military engineer in the area of Epirus, as well as materials for all the building and technical projects he had supervised between 1912 and 1945.

The book is now also available in digital format and has been enriched with more than a hundred photographs.

Andreas Dracopoulos was in charge of the construction of the Race Track in the Faliron Delta area, a pioneering project for its time. Decades later, the area was transformed through the creation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), which includes the new facilities of the National Library of Greece and the Greek National Opera, as well as the Stavros Niarchos Park, breathing new life into the area and the city of Athens in general.

The publication of the book was supported on a personal and private basis by the Co-President of SNF and grandson of Andreas C. Dracopoulos, who bears his name.
