24 January 2019

On Wednesday, January 23rd, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C., hosted the latest installment in the Schieffer Series, “The U.S. Withdraws: Syria and Afghanistan.” The series, hosted by renowned journalist Bob Schieffer, is supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

The Schieffer Series, featuring panel discussions with policy experts on timely topics of global relevance with policy experts, journalists, public officials, and lawmakers, is in its tenth year. Wednesday’s event brought together three CSIS experts involved in the International Security, Global Security and Geostrategy, Cooperative Defense, Middle East, and Transnational Threats programs, as well as Wall Street Journal national security correspondent Nancy Youssef.

CSIS is a nonprofit, bipartisan organization that for over half a century has provided policy to guide society toward a better future. SNF also supports the CSIS Practicum in Modern Journalism, which brings university students from Greece and the United States to gain expert perspective on the journalistic landscape and hands-on experience in storytelling, interview, social media, video, and data visualization skills.
