The SNF Attends Special Event for the Establishment of the Holocaust Museum in Thessaloniki

On Tuesday, January 30th, 2018, as part of the official State visit to Greece, the President of Israel, Mr. Reuven Rivlin, along with the Greek Prime Minister, Mr. Alexis Tsipras, attended a special event held by the Municipality of Thessaloniki and the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki, to lay the foundation stone for the Holocaust Museum in Thessaloniki.

The event, which took place at the construction site of the Museum, was attended by the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Mr. Yannis Boutaris, the President of the Jewish Community of Thessaloniki, Mr. David Saltiel, as well as representatives of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), among others.

The SNF has expressed its intention to support the construction of the Holocaust Museum in Thessaloniki. The specific grant would follow a series of SNF grants for the support of the Greek Jewish community, which include grants for the reconstruction and outfitting of the Etz Hayyim Synagogue building in Chania, which had suffered arson attempts in 2010, and most recently for the restoration of the Yad Lezikaron synagogue in Thessaloniki.

During the event, the Israeli President thanked in his speech all those who will be contributing to the creation of the Holocaust Museum.
On the same day, the wife of President Reuven Rivlin, Mrs. Nehama Rivlin, visited the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.
