An Art Exhibit Created to Break Down Barriers Comes to Sparta

Jun 03, 2021
Following a temporary pause due to the pandemic, a traveling exhibition featuring works by visual artists with disabilities and handwritten texts by writers is making its way to Sparta.

The exhibit, organized by ARTOGETHER—Art of People With and Without Disabilities, in collaboration with the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation, will be on display at the Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil starting on June 9 until June 21.

The exhibition, made possible by a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) as part of the Traveling Art program, invites us to imagine a world where art overcomes limitations, conventions, and prejudices. Works by 25 artists with disabilities are paired with manuscripts by 25 writers, each of which expresses the author’s thoughts and feelings inspired by one of the works of art.

As part of the program, a collaborative publication featuring the artwork and the manuscripts from the exhibition was created through support from SNF.
