The Stavros Niarchos Foundation member of the European Foundation Centre
The EFC has four priority areas: creating an enabling legal and fiscal environment for foundations, communicating and documenting European philanthropy, network-building, and benchmarking and capacity-building.
Some of the EFC´s main programs and services include: knowledge resources, which include information and research on foundations in the EU as well as worldwide, and an online, searchable database of funders with more than 500 in-depth profiles on foundations and corporate funders active in Europe; region-based and thematic funder networks that allow funders to collaborate on issues relevant to various world regions as well as on particular issues relevant to their foundation´s grant-making (examples include education, HIV/AIDS, etc.); capacity-building through professional development, which assists foundation staff in reinforcing their professional skills through seminars and discussions; developing an enabling environment through representation; and monitoring by providing EFC members with important legal and fiscal guidance and knowledge at the European Union and global levels. The EFC also produces a range of documents and publications that are directed to grant-makers and the general public interested in philanthropy in Europe and worldwide.
