To support The Mobile Unit, which brings the highest caliber professional productions of Shakespeare, free of charge, to audiences with little or no access to major New York City arts institutions.
The Public Theater was founded by Joe Papp in 1954, in the belief that Shakespeare belongs to everyone. The Public Theater has championed non-traditional casting in its presentations at its facility in the East Village of Manhattan, as well as at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. Shakespeare in the Park, which reaches an extremely broad audience, is The Public Theater’s distinctive program.
