For acquiring 800 copies of a collection of three books on the role of Greece in the revival of the modern Olympic games.
The three works include Greekworks.com’s first endeavor in publishing, Alexander Kitroeff’s Wrestling With the Ancients: Modern Greek Identity and the Olympics. Kitroeff is a professor of history at Haverford College in Pennsylvania and is a highly regarded scholar of modern Greek and Balkan history.
Also included in the set of three books is Days of 1896: Athens and the Invention of the Modern Olympic Games, the definitive work on the 1896 Olympiad by the historian and former British ambassador to Athens, Michael Llewellyn Smith.
Olympic Revival: The Revival of the Olympic Games in Modern Times, written by the dean of the International Olympic Academy, Dr. Konstantinos Georgiadis, completes the collection.
All three books are noteworthy scholarly analyses that belatedly examine the critical role of Greece in the creation of the international Olympic movement. Greekworks will donate these books to the libraries of four-year academic institutions.
