Greek Animal Welfare Fund

Program support
For the design, production and distribution of a Humane Educational Program for nursery school children.

The program aimed at cultivating a personal sense of responsibility and a compassionate attitude towards animals to thousands of students all over Greece. Humane education programs for older students, aged 6-16, have already been designed and run by GAWF since 1997. The new project targeted nursery school children, as the organization advocates that young children have a natural fascination with animals, which can be used as a basis for teaching them respect for all living creatures.

The Greek Animal Welfare Fund (GAWF) was founded in 1959 with the objective of raising awareness on issues related to the treatment and status of animals in Greece. The organization works on a wide range of issues related to animal welfare, namely education; veterinary care for stray animals; neutering campaigns; equine programs; farm animal welfare issues; campaigns against circuses and the keeping of exotic pets; and lobbying for enforcement and improvements in animal protection laws. Also, GAWF holds an annual writing competition for children, themed after an animal welfare subject, which attracts every year thousands of entries.
