For tsunami relief efforts in Asia. One third of the Fund´s substantial commitment was directed immediately after the tsunami to the International Response Fund of the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross coordinated relief efforts with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in the affected countries (especially in Indonesia and Sri Lanka). The International Response Fund provided immediate and long-term assistance in all aspects of disaster management, including providing technical support, shelter, food, health, and other needed supplies.
