A sad farewell to Susan Solomon - Stavros Niarchos Foundation

A sad farewell to Susan Solomon

We would like to express our great sorrow for the loss of Susan L. Solomon, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of the New York Stem Cell Foundation (NYSCF).

NYSCF helps stem cell scientists around the world advance their research and operates the NYSCF Research Institute, the largest independent stem cell laboratory in the United States. Susan Solomon’s work helped catalyze the field, transforming the future of medical research in the process.

Susan leaves behind a void that will be hard to fill, as well as a great legacy in stem cell research and the development of treatments for the major diseases of our time.

It was an honor for all of us at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) to have worked with her. Beginning in 2008, we partnered with NYSCF to support its evolving work and their efforts to build connections with the public, a partnership captured in what is now the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Gallery at NYSCF’s headquarters. Since then, we have continued working with NYSCF on multiple projects, helping the organization grow their Education & Outreach programs and, through a currently ongoing collaboration, supporting NYSCF as they build into their future.

We most recently had the pleasure of working closely with Susan at SNF Nostos Health in June 2022, where she led the interactive New York Stem Cell Foundation: Live Experiment & Ask Me Anything. “In order to have safe and effective treatments, we need to respect our [genetic] differences and be able to investigate them,” she said at the event.

All of us at SNF will always remember Susan for her dedication to research, the passion with which she pursued her vision, and her willingness to overcome any obstacles for the benefit of science and, ultimately, of humanity.

We express our deep and sincere condolences to her husband Paul, her family, her loved ones, and her colleagues at NYSCF.
