A better tomorrow for unaccompanied teenagers in Greece

There are kids who travel miles and miles from their homes for the chance at a better tomorrow, ending up in an unknown country without parents, relatives, or anyone they know, without a place to stay or a means of supporting themselves.

Often, they don’t speak any language other than their mother tongue. In Greece, The Home Project runs 14 shelters that welcome these kids and support their journey toward a better tomorrow.

Through a grant to the organization, we at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) are in turn supporting the work of The HOME Project over the next two years. With our support, The HOME Project will ensure that a shelter for 24 unaccompanied teenage boys, ages 13 to 18 years old, in the area of Kypseli in Athens continues to operate sustainably for the next two years. The teenagers staying at the shelter participate in neighborhood life and benefit from The HOME Project’s effort to build a unified community with locals. The ultimate goal is to achieve social integration by creating employment opportunities and enabling children and young people to become active members of society.
