Monaco’s 10th annual Sainte Dévote rugby tournament features inclusive activities
13 MAY 2022

Monaco’s Sainte Dévote rugby tournament brings together 10- to 12-year-olds from countries around the world to play the sport and celebrate the values it aspires to represent: solidarity, integrity, team spirit, and respect.

This year’s tournament also highlighted the value of inclusion for people of all abilities.

In early May, young people from 14 countries including Mauritius, Ireland, Belgium, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Georgia, and Ecuador gathered to compete in the tournament organized by the Monegasque Rugby Federation. Athletes from Special Olympics Monaco were honored at the event, which included accessible activities designed for young people with disabilities. Other activities offered young children ages 2 to 6 the chance to gain familiarity with the sport, and, all told, some 500 people participated in the event.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) has supported the annual tournament, named for the patron saint of Monaco, since 2015. SNF believes firmly in the power of sports to bring people together, break down barriers, and provide a framework for personal growth.
