SNF Reactivates Support of Sailing Program for People with Disabilities through a Direct Grant to Six Local Sailing Clubs in Greece, Following the Cancellation of Its Grant to the Hellenic Sailing Federation
09 March 2021

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) reactivates support of sailing for people with disabilities through a direct grant to six renowned nautical and sailing clubs throughout Greece in order to ensure that the sailing program continues uninterrupted.

This announcement follows the suspension and subsequent cancellation of an SNF umbrella grant to the Hellenic Sailing Federation after a series of serious misconduct allegations related to the Federation. This direct grant to the individual clubs will provide the means to secure the smooth continuity of the program, which offers access to sailing instruction and competitive opportunities to people with disabilities.

The recipients of the new SNF grant are The Nautical Clubs of Alexandroupolis, Chios, and Thessaloniki, the Nautical Club of Volos and Argonauts, and the Sailing Clubs of Patras and Heraklion.

With this new initiative, SNF is following through on its commitment to support the development of sailing for people with disabilities throughout Greece, with the goal of offering access to the opportunities for recreation, socialization, inclusion and physical empowerment the sport provides.
