Nominations may be made online by anyone and will be reviewed by an international jury. Each winner is awarded a $50,000 honorarium. This year’s prize will include a new category of winners, rising leaders who have demonstrated standout potential, who will each be awarded a $25,000 honorarium.
This year, the prize has been renamed to reflect the longstanding partnership between the Tällberg Foundation and SNF, which provides support for the effort, while continuing to honor Swedish diplomat and former Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Jan Eliasson, whose name has historically been attached to the award.
The 2020 winners included an oceanographer who champions conservation efforts, a human rights lawyer who uses the law to free political prisoners, and an engineer and social entrepreneur using data to improve and save lives.
