REFLECT / REFORM / RESTART Virtual Journalism Forum Marks Two Years of iMEdD
11 February 2021

To celebrate its second anniversary, iMEdD (the incubator for Media Education and Development) is holding a three-day open virtual forum on the present and the future of journalism from February 17 to 19, 2021. The nonprofit organization, whose mission is supporting and promoting transparency, credibility, and independence in journalism, was founded through an exclusive grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

The first two years at iMEdD have been creative and productive, filled with new ideas and initiatives. Starting with the Ideas Zone and the Incubator as its main pillars of work, and then adding the Lab, the Bridge, Inside the Box, and Out of the Box, iMEdD has bravely experimented from day one to set the bar ever higher. These two years have seen dozens of workshops, new initiatives, speakers, projects, distinctions for its teams, synergies in Greece and beyond, and a community of people—journalism professionals, academics, and students—who have found common ground. The culmination of iMEdD’s journey so far came in 2020—a year defined around the world by COVID-19—when the nonprofit became a hub of public discourse. It introduced the project PARONTES (PRESENT). It brought the SNF DIALOGUES to the public, every single month. It created the Lab and a web application tracking the course of the pandemic, demonstrating the importance of data in journalism and offering a valuable, open, and editable tool. After its first two years, iMEdD’s impact is unmistakable and constantly evolving.

To celebrate this two-year anniversary, on February 17, 18, and 19, iMEdD invites us to look back on the year we are leaving behind and its impact on journalism, to participate in discussions on the future of journalism, and to learn about the tools and techniques that journalists can use. The forum, REFLECT / REFORM / RESTART, reflects the identity of iMEdD.

Through panels, presentations, flash sessions, workshops, the avant-première of the documentary PARONTES (Greece, 2021, 75 min.) directed by Yorgos Avgeropoulos and produced by iMEdD, and this month’s meeting of the SNF DIALOGUES, Parontes (Present): Is the news on lockdown? participants will have the opportunity to learn, reflect, exchange views, and connect with professionals and academics from Greece and abroad. Explore the full program of the forum below. To learn more about the sessions and the speakers, and to sign up for events, please visit forum.imedd.org.
