18 February 2021

Stacey Abrams, the first Black woman to become a major party gubernatorial candidate in the U.S., one of the World’s Most Powerful Women in 2020 according to Forbes, and a force in determining the current makeup of the Senate, will join a conversation at the University of Pennsylvania cohosted by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Paideia Program.

The event, moderated by former NAACP National President & CEO Ben Jealous, will take place on Friday, February 19 at noon EST and is free and open to the public with advance registration.

Other upcoming SNF Paideia events in February include The New Conservatism: A Conversation with William Kristol & Sarah Longwell, The Criminal Justice System: Policing and Public Safety as part of Penn’s year of Civic Engagement, and Black Power, Jewish Politics: Reinventing the Alliance in the 1960s.

In March 2019, SNF announced a $6 million grant to the University of Pennsylvania to imagine a new paradigm for its project of educating students as whole people and citizens. The result, drawing inspiration from ancient Greece and the concept of “paideia,” which indicated the rearing and education of the ideal citizen, is the SNF Paideia Program.
