The Shed Announces New Commissions from 27 Artists through Open Call

Dec 10, 2020
The Shed, which opened last year to bring together creators from every artistic discipline in a cultural institution accessible to all audiences, has announced the 27 New York City artists selected for the second round of its Open Call program.

The commissioning program, for which the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) provides support, serves early-career artists in performance, the visual arts, or popular culture media. The artists selected will present their work at The Shed from summer 2021 through 2022, with admission to Open Call events free to the public.

Poet Cindy Tran, for instance, will create a “filmed sequence of sonnets that honors local businesses and the communities that enrich and sustain New York City.” Meet the other artists.

SNF seeks to individual artists around the world in producing exciting new work and sharing it with the public, including through the ARTWORKS SNF Artist Fellowship program, the International Studio & Curatorial Program, and Mophradat’s Consortium Commissions. SNF has also made emergency relief for individual artists a part of its $100 million global COVID-19 relief initiative.
