Public Humanities Events, from AIDS in 1980s Athens to Zine Workshops
22 October 2020

True to its name and mission, the SNF Public Humanities Initiative (SNFPHI) offers a range of public events, from sci-fi film screenings to collaborative creation of a zine documenting our current strange existence as if it were an alien world.

On Thursday, October 22, in a Greek-language event, a journalist and a filmmaker recall the early days of the AIDS epidemic in Athens, cast in a new light by the current pandemic and by the experiences of LGBTQ communities in the intervening years.

Established in 2019, SNFPHI is exclusively supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). It is a project of Columbia University’s Institute for Ideas and Imagination, which was inaugurated in fall 2018 with lead support from SNF.
