Military helicopters performing “show of force” maneuvers against people on the street and in their homes in Washington, D.C. Startling images from the nation’s capital have brought to the fore the pressing question of what role, if any, the U.S. military should play during times of widespread protest.

On Tuesday, June 9 at 1:00 EDT, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C., will address this question in a virtual installment of its Schieffer Series moderated by Wall Street Journal National Security Correspondent Nancy Youssef. Former Secretaries of Defense and Homeland Security, as well as a former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff will join the discussion, which is free and open to the public with advance registration.

The Schieffer Series is supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
