The CSIS Schieffer Series Presents “2020 Challenges Ahead”

Jan 07, 2020
If there’s one thing the first week of 2020 has proven, it’s that pressing new challenges will continue to unfold, even as long-running ones continue to simmer—from trade tensions, to Brexit, to our climate emergency.

On Thursday, January 9, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C., will hold the latest installment of its Schieffer Series. Hosted by renowned journalist Bob Schieffer, the series features panel discussions on timely topics of global relevance with policy experts, journalists, public officials, and lawmakers.

In this installment, Schieffer will be joined by CSIS experts Kathleen H. Hicks, Stephanie Segal, Sarah Ladislaw, and Beverly Kirk in a discussion of major challenges we face in the coming year. In December, all four CSIS experts sat down for a conversation on the Smart Women, Smart Power podcast, hosted by Kirk, discussing potential challenges in the coming year. In the short time since, the landscape of challenges facing us in the coming year has evolved significantly, and the four will dive deeper with Shieffer.

The event, free with advance registration, will take place from 5:00-6:30 at CSIS, and will also be livestreamed.

The Schieffer Series, supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), is organized through a collaboration between CSIS and Texas Christian University’s Bob Schieffer College of Communication. It has shed light on current events for over a decade.
