Alternative Revenue Sources in Journalism by iMEdD and Columbia’s Journalism School
14 January 2020

The last unit of iMEdD’s (the incubator for Media Education and Development) eight-week Newsroom Essentials program, completed in November 2019, explored how media companies in a digital world can build a sustainable business model in a digital world by tapping into multiple revenue.

See what Raju Narisetti, Professor of Professional Practice and Director of Knight-Bagehot Fellowship in Economics and Business Journalism of Columbia Journalism School, has to say on alternative revenue streams, such as events, podcasts, and memberships, that media use to ensure their survival. Narisetti also discusses how media have been affected by the development of streaming platforms like Netflix and why print journalism won’t die anytime soon.
Newsroom Essentials was designed and implemented in collaboration with Columbia University’s Journalism School as part of iMEdD’s Ideas Zone.
