12 December 2019

Now, even more people with disabilities will have the opportunity to experience the unique sense of freedom offered by sailing and contact with the sea, thanks to the “Hellenic Wind4all” program, a major new initiative by the Hellenic Sailing Federation.

The program, implemented with the exclusive support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), provides for the creation of sailing teams for people with disabilities, the procurement of specialized boats, and the training of coaches at five nautical clubs around the country. The program will be implemented at the Nautical Clubs of Alexandroupoli, and Chios, at the Heraklion and Patras Sailing Clubs, and at the Nautical Club of Volos and Argonautes. At the same time, the program will be rolled out at other clubs around the country over the next three years.

“Hellenic Wind4all” is designed for all people with disabilities, regardless of age, offering freedom, mobility, opportunities for socialization, and physical empowerment through their activity at sea.

SNF has consistently supported, the sport of sailing and sporting opportunities for people with disabilities. For instance, SNF supported the national sailing team in preparing for the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens.
