Greek Diaspora Fellowship Program alumni share their experiences

Nov 05, 2019
A huge number of academics with Greek roots live and work elsewhere around the world.
The Greek Diaspora Fellowship Program (GDFP) gives these scholars the chance to return temporarily to Greece, strengthening their own scholarship and the Greek universities they visit. Over the past two years, the GDFP has fostered academic exchange for more than 120 fellow Greek diaspora scientists from countries North America, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.

The GDFP will be presented in an open event on November 11, at the Book Castle in the building of the National Library of Greece at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC). The event will bring together program fellows, who will share their experiences with the audience, and representatives of the organizations behind the program.

The academic exchange program is implemented by the Institute of International Education (IIE) and Fulbright Greece, with support from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). It aims to encourage established Greek diaspora academics to teach, collaborate with students, conduct research, and develop educational programs in Greece, promoting mobility of ideas and helping stem Greek brain drain.
