15 OCTOBER 2019 / Weekends in Vamvakou! October 19-20, 2019

A robot, walnuts, a reimagined school, and a great festival! Local tradition and customs, as well as seasonal tastes, colors, and aromas, blend seamlessly with new technologies and a look to their future in Vamvakou, making it a truly unique family destination.

October is Walnut month in Vamvakou culminating in the storied Walnut Festival. Vamvakou Revival invites you to a festive weekend on 19-20/10 in Vamvakou, Laconia.

Throughout the weekend, take your pick from a menu of activities for the whole family: forest tours, hiking trails, cycling with electric HAIBIKE bikes, nature activities for kids, and guided tours around the village. At the village’s school, children can attend educational programs on new technologies, robotics, STEAM, and digital skills. The program is complemented by an exhibition of antiques, an event on the traditional Laconian lyre, and the Gastronomy and Walnut Festival, which showcases unique tastes, gastronomy tips, and local produce and music.

Weekend programs are part of the Vamvakou Revival initiative, implemented by the Vamvakou Revival team with the collaboration and support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

V.Lab opens its doors to the public
On Saturday, October 19, a pioneering new technology hub, V.Lab (the Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF), opens its doors to the public and offers its first free robotics lesson for children ages 9 to 14 with a Lego EV3 robot. Free lessons, familiarizing young people with robotics, programming, engineering, 3D design, and mathematics, will be held on the weekends to come at Vamvakou’s school. The school was recently renovated and transformed into a state-of-the-art technology center with 3D printers, interactive whiteboards, modern teleconference systems, laptops, and a Lego EV3, providing the opportunity for young people in the area—and beyond—to explore new technologies. On Sunday, October 20, visitors to Vamvakou will have the opportunity to tour the school grounds and learn about its new offerings for kids.

7th Gastronomy and Walnut Festival
The 7th Gastronomy and Walnut Festival, organized by the Nea Zoi Cultural Assocciation of Vamvakou with the support of Vamvakou Revival, will take place on Sunday, October 20, at the village school.
