The journey begins today with a first stop at Ai Stratis, one of the most isolated islands in Greece, and continues from the middle to the end of the month in northern Greece in Evros, Xanthi, and Komotini.
If you are a resident of these areas, save the dates: Ai Stratis September 4 – 7 and Evros, Xanthi, and Komotini September 12 – 22. During this time, the doctors, nurses and technical staff of the MMU will offer free healthcare services and exams, such as ultrasounds, mammography and Pap tests, to anyone who is interested.
The Mobile Medical Units are the result of an initiative undertaken by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) and carried out, with exclusive support from SNF, by the nonprofit Regeneration & Progress, in collaboration with Health Units SA. On each mission to islands and isolated areas of Greece, the Mobile Medical Units are accompanied by doctors, qualified nursing and technical staff, and medical school students, among others.
Since the launch of the program in January 2014, a total of 55 missions to remote islands and areas of Greece have been completed. The aim of the program is to ensure equal access to high-quality health services for all residents of the country.
