Plugging a Gap in the Education to Employment Pipeline in Southern Italy
29 July 2019

Nearly a quarter of young people in Italy are not engaged in employment, education, or training, one of the highest rates of disengagement in the European Union.

The social cost—now and into the future—of this situation is immediately evident.

In considering remedies, Fondazione Mission Bambini sees a gap in support in the transitional period between education and employment that allows young people to fall out into the category of the disengaged.

With targeted support from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), Fondazione Mission Bambini will provide comprehensive transitional support to five young people between the ages of 17 and 25 who are living in southern Italy. Support will include career counseling, group and individual coaching, help securing housing, job training, and job placement, with the aim of securing stable employment for participants.

Fondazione Mission Bambini works to improve the lives of children and young people around the world, with a particular focus on Italy in the wake of the country’s 2008 economic crisis.
