First Linear Accelerator Installed at the 401 Military Hospital of Athens
24 July 2019

In early June, the installation of the first linear accelerator was completed at the 401 Military Hospital of Athens. On July 22, it was first put into use, and it will be fully operational by September, 2019.

At the same time, work is underway for the installation of the second linear accelerator, which will be operational by early next year, making the level of services provided by the Army among the highest in Europe. Civilians will also have free access to the services of the radiotherapy equipment.

The two linear accelerators at the 401 Military Hospital of Athens were donated by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) as part of a broader grant by the SNF for the procurement and installation of radiotherapy equipment in public hospitals around Greece, with the aim of increasing access to high-quality diagnostic and treatment services for cancer patients.
