On July 13, 2019, the running mountain race, Vamvakou Mountain Run, was held for the first time in Parnonas, Lakonia. Over 250 runners participated in the 7 and 28 km routes, having as a starting point the village of Vamvakou.
Through the lush trails of the mountain and the wider area of Parnonas, they returned again to the village of Vamvakou, where a number of other parallel events were organized on the same day.
The Vamvakou Mountain Run is part of the Vamvakou Revival initiative. Organizational supervision of the race was undertaken by the nonprofit Regeneration & Progress and the Department of Sports Excellence of the 1st Orthopedic Clinic of the University of Athens Medical School. The race takes place with the exclusive support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
In 2020 the run will be organized on Saturday, July 4th.
