Summer Camp in Vamvakou: Opening the Road for the Revival of the Village
06 June 2019

In July, Vamvakou’s population of only eleven permanent residents, will multiply many times over.

The school, the main square and the streets will be filled with children’s voices and laughter. Because this year, for the first time, the little village on Mount Parnon will host the three-week “Sport Paths” Summer Camp, implemented by the NGO “Regeneration & Progress” in collaboration with the Vamvakou Revival team with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

The Sport Paths Summer Camp, which is travelling in mainland Greece for the very first time, will operate every weekday between July 1 and July 19. It is designed for primary school children, with an emphasis on promoting sports education through their participation in sports and group games.

We have saved the best news for last! Participation is free of charge for all 120 spots. You may submit your interest by June 16, via email at [email protected] and by phone at +30 2731-0-76233.

The camp will take place alongside the first stages of Vamvakou’s Revival, an initiative of the SNF, while some buildings of the village will be renovated, the narrow alleyways cleaned, the paths of the surrounding areas opened, and the village gradually welcomes its first visitors.
Please note one more date: Saturday, July 13. On the occasion of the effort to revive the village, the SNF is organizing a full-day celebration with activities in nature, games, a mountain run, SNF’s July DIALOGUES event, titled “Return to the Roots,” and a big party for everyone.
