Open Discussion with Residents of Komotini and Thessaloniki on New Hospitals to Be Created Through SNF Grant
12 June 2019

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), in collaboration with the Municipalities of Komotini and Pylaia-Chortiatis, held two open discussions on the creation of the new SNF General Hospital of Komotini – and of the SNF University Pediatric Hospital of Thessaloniki.

We discussed the new SNF General Hospital of Komotini on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 and the SNF University Pediatric Hospital of Thessaloniki on Wednesday, June 12.

During the discussions, SNF presented to residents of Komotini and Thessaloniki the vision and reasoning behind the design of the two hospitals, undertaken by the internationally renowned architect Renzo Piano and the Renzo Piano Building Workshop architectural firm, creators of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC). We were also happy to answer questions from the audience about the building plans and projected completion dates, and were excited to share our hopes for improvements in public health in both regions.

These two major grants are part of the SNF Health Initiative, with a total budget of over $348 million, involving the construction of new infrastructure, the provision of specialized equipment, and the implementation of educational programs aimed at enhancing medical and nursing care and, by extension, the health of Greece’s inhabitants.

We’ll be seeing you again in two months’ time to discuss the progress of the two grants.
