During its inaugural event, Athens Photo World will honor Yannis Behrakis through its exhibitions and programs, focusing on his multiannual, rich and award-winning work, and his significant contribution to Greek and international photojournalism. As part of Athens Photo World, seven exhibitions will take place at various locations in Athens, such as the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), highlighting the work of more than 100 photojournalists and contributing to the way we perceive the world today.
Athens Photo World is based on an idea by Thanassis Stavrakis, Chief Photographer for the Associated Press, and is implemented with the exclusive support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), in collaboration with a multitude of major institutions, such as the SNFCC and the Municipality of Athens.
In an effort to support Journalism in Greece and internationally, the SNF has supported a series of programs, such as the Scholarship Program for Greek Journalists at the Columbia University School of Journalism, and the Practicum of Modern Journalism at CSIS (Center for Strategic and International Studies), which invites journalism students to Washington for a week of intensive workshops. Furthermore, the Dracopoulos iDeas Lab at CSIS, which was created in 2011 with the personal support of the SNF’s Co-President, Andreas Dracopoulos, aims to communicate often complex policy matters in a broadly accessible way. The nonprofit organization iMEdD, based in Athens and supported exclusively by the SNF, aims to promote innovation, independence and excellence in the field of journalism.
