Shedia Home: A Home for Εmployment, Empowerment, and Social Innovation

May 30, 2019
The plans for Shedia Home have become a reality, and now it is officially opening its doors to the public, in the heart of the city’s historic center. Homemade flavors, coffee and cocktails, workshops, issues of the Shedia magazine and creations by “Shedia Art” for sale, await us in this special home, located on 56 Kolokotroni and 2 Nikiou Streets.

At Shedia Home, we are welcomed by our gracious hosts, 30 people who, at some point in their lives, were left without work and without a home. Now, they are offered the opportunity to work in a decent environment, to escape the conditions of poverty and homelessness, and to regain their self-evident right to dream of a better life. Shedia Home, a hub of social solidarity and applied social innovation, is here to activate, empower, educate, and create jobs.

“We are striving to create a space where visitors will want to come, in any case. And, we hope that their soul is satisfied by the knowledge that with their presence, by having fun essentially, they are participating is such a special social project,” says Christos Alefantis, Editor in Chief of Shedia magazine.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) is a supporter of the new solidarity and social innovation hub, as well as of the street magazine Shedia, which is sold on the streets of Athens and Thessaloniki by certified vendors from vulnerable social groups, guaranteeing them a decent income.

We hope to see you all there!
