28 May 2019

Members of the World Hellenic Biomedical Association (WHBA) and representatives of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) visited the Presidential Palace on Monday, May 27, to meet with the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Prokopis Pavlopoulos.

The subject of the meeting was a training program in the United States for graduates from medical departments of Greek universities implemented by the WHBA with the support of the SNF.

The discussion revolved around how the program works, candidate selection criteria, and the program’s benefits and impact, with the President of the Republic stressing the importance of the initiative and the overall importance of providing support and opportunities to young Greek researchers.

As part of the program, 10 graduates from medical departments had the opportunity to work at a research lab or clinic in the U.S. for a period of 3-15 months, develop their skills, and gain experience within a highly demanding international environment, all while improving their competitive position in Greece and abroad. At the same time, the prospect of the program expanding to Canada and other countries is also being examined.
