UCLA Αnnounces Νew Arts Endowment SNF Center for the Study of Hellenic Culture

Feb 11, 2019
On Friday, February 8th, the UCLA Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Center for the Study of Hellenic Culture announced the creation of a new endowment for the presentation of Greek-related works of art.
The Peter J. and Caroline B. Caloyeras Endowment for the Arts will support performances of music and theater with a meaningful connection to Greece, as well as talks by experts in Greek art, history, and archaeology. Programming made possible by the new endowment will build on an already diverse slate of presenters, including in the past year the President of the Acropolis Museum, a Cypriot “Icon Hunter” who tracked looted artifacts, and anthropologist Michael Herzfeld, who also gave this year’s SNF lecture at Yale.

In 2017, a $5 million grant from SNF established and endowed the SNF Center for the Study of Hellenic Culture at the University of California, Los Angeles. The Center was conceptualized as an academic and cultural hub reaching beyond the bounds of the university and engaging Southern California’s considerable Greek community.
