06 FEBRUARY 2019 / Global Editors Network announces 2019 Summit at the SNFCC

The Global Editors Network (GEN) has announced that, at the invitation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), the 2019 GEN Summit will be held at the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center (SNFCC) in Athens, Greece.

The Summit, GEN’s flagship annual event, will take place from June 13th to 15th and will bring together more than 800 journalism and media professionals. Speakers at this year’s Summit will include Google News founder Krishna Bharat, Guardian Editor-in-Chief Katharine Viner, and Bloomberg News Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait.

"The Stavros Niarchos Foundation believes in the importance of a robust, independent press,” said Andreas Dracopoulos, SNF Co-President. “Building on substantial partnerships around journalism with Columbia University, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Bloomberg, and others, we support GEN’s mission of promoting the pursuit of excellence in journalism. It is the pursuit of such excellence that also motivates our collaboration with the new Athens-based Incubator for Media Education & Development (iMEdD) and the funding of this critical new initiative."

GEN was founded in 2011 to help journalists, editors, and media professionals from around the world connect and share ideas.

"We at the Global Editors Network are proud to be invited to host the GEN Summit in Athens, and to receive the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation," said GEN President Jim Roberts in the organization’s press release about the event. "We are encouraged by the SNF initiative to acknowledge excellence in journalism, and we are convinced that with the support given to us we will be able to produce the best annual conference to date."
