On Thursday, January 17th, Stavros Niarchos Foundation partner and grantee the Tällberg Foundation hosted its second event in a series of conversations on society and technology: “Inside Every Utopia is Dystopia: An Exploration.”
These conversations aimed to explore scientific innovations on the horizon with the potential to have the biggest impacts on society and to conceptualize what these impacts might look like.
The event, one of the workshops Tällberg holds each year, was held near Boston at Tufts University’s Silklab. Fiorenzo Omenetto, who directs the lab, co-hosted the workshop with Tällberg Foundation Chairman of the Board Alan Stoga. Attendees also heard from speakers from the realms of business, journalism, and science, including Columbia neurobiologist Rafael Yuste, a winner of Tällberg’s 2018 Eliasson Global Leadership Prize.
In recent years, the Tällberg Foundation has hosted workshops around topics including migration, polarization in the 21st century, and technological disruption. The Foundation has also contributed to the annual SNF Conference, with Alan Stoga moderating a panel on “Artificial Intelligence and its Disruptive Potential” at last year’s conference. SNF has provided support to the Tällberg Foundation since 2014.
