SNF Grantee, National Center for Emergency Care, Commemorates Fallen Rescuers
14 January 2019

On Monday, January 14th, the National Center for Emergency Care (EKAV) held an event marking “Rescuer’s Sacrifice Day” in honor of the memory of all EKAV employees who lost their lives in the line of duty. The event took place in the amphitheater of EKAV’s Operations Center, in the presence of the President of the Republic, the political leadership of the Ministry of Health, and representatives of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

The SNF has supported the work of EKAV with a €14 million grant, completed last year, for the procurement of 143 state-of-the-art and fully equipped ambulances, as well as their full maintenance for a period of eight years. The grant also covered the digital upgrade of EKAV’s Operations Center in Attica, which receives more than 1,700,000 calls annually (according to 2016 EKAV data), aiming to improve response time by 25 percent.
