15 NOVEMBER 2018 / Sports as an Agent for Change and Social Inclusion

More than 3,000 local and refugee children have participated in FutbolNet sessions carried out by the Barça Foundation, with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, in refugee sites in Lebanon, Italy, and Greece. The sports and education programs that follow the FutbolNet methodology use sports as a pedagogical and developmental tool that can help improve the emotional wellbeing and social skills of children and young people, while promoting social inclusion and integration. While they play, children learn to exercise agency, take responsibility, include others and gain confidence in their own abilities.

The SNF expands its support for Barça Foundation’s FutbolNet for an additional three years, to expand their outreach beyond Greece, Italy and Lebanon, extending programming to refugee children in Catalonia.
