“Le Spot” Nice Provides Community Space for HIV Prevention, Screening and Treatment

Nov 23, 2018
On Thursday, November 22nd, the AIDES network inaugurated a new space in Nice dedicated to prevention, screening, and early treatment of HIV/AIDS, supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

The network aims to end HIV transmission by 2040, and community-focused spaces like “Le Spot” Nice which can provide safe, local spaces for awareness efforts and medical care, are invaluable in working to achieve this goal. Existing similar spaces in Paris and Marseilles have shown impact for local populations. With estimated hundreds of thousands of people in France living with HIV and thousands of new infections each year, the need is pressing, particularly in Nice, one of the hardest-hit cities in France.

SNF was represented at the inauguration event by Chief Operating Officer at the Monaco office Bernard Guilbaud, who gave brief remarks.

SNF has provided past support to a range of organizations around the world working on HIV/AIDS awareness, treatment, and support initiatives, including Born Free Africa, AIDS Community Research Initiative of America, Fight AIDS Monaco, and the Greek Association of People Living with HIV – Positive Voice, among others.
