09 NOVEMBER 2018 / Exploratory Theater Spans four Continents with SNF support

As part of its 2019 season, the Bush Theatre announced BABYLON, an ambitious festival taking place across four continents and over two weeks, from February 4th to 16th. The festival, featuring the world premiere of BABYLON: Beyond Borders, is supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

The first week, taking place in London at the Bush Theatre, will present live podcast shows, cabaret, music, and more. The second week, presented through a collaboration between the Bush Theatre, Harlem stage in New York, Pequeno Ato in São Paulo, and Market Theater in Johannesburg, will raise questions related to land, migration, exile, and language.

The Bush Theatre seeks to provide a stage to outstanding new playwrights in an environment that prioritizes diversity and inclusion.

International artistic collaboration, like that forged through BABYLON: Beyond Borders, is a driving impulse for SNF’s Summer Nostos Festival. Last year’s festival featured Greek-Jamaican R&B singer Lianne La Havas, a tribute to Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson by the American Contemporary Music Ensemble, and DJs from around Africa, among many others.
