On Thursday, November 1st, 2018, Yale University hosted its annual Stavros Niarchos Foundation Lecture in Hellenic Studies with Michael Herzfeld, “Greece in a Larger Universe: The Perils of Exceptionalism.”
Dr. Herzfeld is the Ernest E. Monrad Professor of Social Sciences in the Department of Anthropology at Harvard University. The author of a number of books, Dr. Herzfeld conducts research in Greece, Italy, and Thailand, focusing recently on areas including the social impacts of historic conservation efforts.
The lecture was presented through the Hellenic Studies Program at the Whitney and Betty MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies, whose activities are supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Center for Hellenic Studies at Yale University. Furthermore, the SNF has provided significant support for the Yale University School of Public Health, the Yale School of Art, whose Deanship has been named the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Dean of the Yale School of Art.
