The 2018 Athenagoras Human Rights Award

On Saturday, October 27th, 2018, the Athenagoras Human Rights Award was presented to Father Alexander and Presbytera Xanthi Karloutsos at the Order of Saint Andrew’s Grand Banquet.

Father Alexander is priest at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church of the Hamptons, and is the Assistant to His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Geron of America, under whose auspices the award is presented.

Τhe Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) provided support for the event in honor of Father Alexander.

The award has been given since 1986 to individuals or organizations dedicated to safeguarding basic rights and religious freedom for all. Past recipients include SNF, Joe Biden, Desmond Tutu, Elie Wiesel and CBS News program 60 Minutes.
