08 JUNE 2018 / Inauguration of the New Linear Accelerator at the University General Hospital of Larissa, with the SNF Support

On Monday, June 11th, 2018, the General University Hospital of Larissa is inaugurating its new linear accelerator (linac) which is already in clinical operation. The procurement of the radiotherapy equipment was made possible through a grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), as part of the program for the replacement of radiotherapy equipment in public hospitals across Greece.

Initiated and supported exclusively by the SNF, the Radiotherapy Program supports the procurement and installation of 10 linear accelerators in seven public hospitals in Greece. The new, state-of-the-art equipment will significantly improve the treatment of cancer patients throughout the country. The grant is also supporting the free maintenance of each linear accelerator for two years, plus training programs for hospital personnel to ensure optimal operation of the radiotherapy equipment.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
