22 May 2018

On Monday, May 21st, 2018, the Committee for the Development and Implementation of a Palliative Care Strategy in Greece held its first working group meeting with the participation of representatives of the palliative care sector in Greece, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and the Worldwide Hospice Palliative Care Alliance (WHPCA), an international non-governmental organization focusing on hospice and palliative care development worldwide.

The Committee was established within the framework of the SNF’s grant to WHPCA for the development of a feasibility study to map and access the existing needs in the field of palliative care across the country, leading to a national comprehensive strategy

The SNF has supported initiatives and organizations that promote quality palliative care in Greece and worldwide, the most recent one being its grant towards the completion of a Palliative Care Inpatient Unit in Greece, which offers free of charge, comprehensive and continuous palliative care to patients with terminal cancer, as well as to their families, thereby assisting them in achieving the best possible quality of life.
